People with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or other medical conditions that make breathing difficult should check with their healthcare provider before using an N95 mask as the higher filtration in an N95 mask can make it more difficult for the wearer to breathe.

Medical grade surgical masks and N95 masks are personal protective equipment that are used to protect the wearer from airborne particles and from liquid contaminating the face.

A medical grade surgical masks is a loose-fitting, single-use device that creates a physical barrier between the mouth and nose of the wearer and potential contaminants in the immediate environment.

An N95 mask, on the other hand, are designed to achieve a very close facial fit and very efficient filtration of airborne particles in high-risk environments such as hospital settings. Hence, it is reasonable to find it more difficult to breathe through the N95 mask. However, if breathing difficulties persist or worsen, wearer should stop using the N95 mask and switch to a medical grade surgical masks.

All masks distributed under the Stay Prepared initiative have been tested by multiple laboratories to pass required safety standards and should not cause any allergic reactions to wearer.

However, if you experience any severe discomfort or allergies, it is advisable to stop wearing the mask and switch to a different brand or consult with a medical professional.
Prior to the distribution, the masks have been stored in optimum condition such as low humidity and low temperature to maintain maximum shelf life. However, do note that the shelf life of the mask starts from the manufacturing date, and not the distribution date.

The masks are able to last beyond their expiry date, albeit with slight degradation of effectiveness, if kept under dry and air tight conditions, away from direct sun. Masks kept in cardboard boxes will be protected from the sun and will last longer in terms of their effectiveness. However, high humidity environment will shorten the useful lifespan of the mask.

Please note the expiry dates as below:

50 medical grade surgical masks
BYD Cares: see expiry date on box
Dunamis ASTM Level 1, Egis: 3 years from manufacturing date
Dunamis ASTM Level 2, Egis: 3 years from manufacturing date

25 N95 masks
BYD Cares N95 masks: see expiry date on box
All the single-use masks in this distribution come in a standard size. Should residents require their masks to have a tighter fit, the strings of the masks can be tied into knots and shortened manually.
A wearer should not have any difficulty breathing through the single-use medical grade surgical masks.

The N95 mask, on the other hand, is designed to achieve a very close facial fit and very efficient filtration of airborne particles in high-risk environments such as hospital settings. Hence, the wearer may find it slightly more difficult to breathe through the N95 mask.

People with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or other medical conditions that make breathing difficult should check with their healthcare provider before using an N95 mask as the N95 mask can make it more difficult for the wearer to breathe.

MaskPlus™ Livinguard is customised by Livinguard, a hygiene technology firm headquartered in Switzerland for Temasek Foundation. The masks are manufactured in Sri Lanka and Indonesia with 100% proprietary-treated treated cotton fabric.

The mask is treated with Livinguard antimicrobial technology in Switzerland. Other parts of the mask are made from materials including elastic, silicone and plastic.
The reusable mask can be washed up to 30 times, and need only be washed once a week. If worn daily and washed weekly, the mask can be used for up to seven months (210 days).

After 30 washes, the reusable masks can continue to be used like ordinary masks even though the antiviral and antibacterial performance will be gradually reduced with each additional wash. For more protection, you may wish to add another layer of surgical mask or filter.

When you do dispose of your mask, please do so thoughtfully. Applying the principles of circular use, you can repurpose it for some other suitable use, and then dispose of it in the rubbish properly. Let’s all be environmentally friendly and avoid contributing to our waste by littering.
All masks distributed under the Stay Prepared initiative have been tested by multiple laboratories to pass required safety standards.

The MaskPlus™ Livinguard reusable mask offers protection primarily by inactivating viruses. The mask has an antiviral performance of over 97% and an antibacterial performance of over 99.75% after 30 washes.

More information on the masks can be found at stayprepared.sg/masks.

Information on the specifications of the mask can be found at Livinguard’s website https://livinguard.com/MaskPlus/.

Although labelling on the packaging suggests shelf life of 1 year, new laboratory tests demonstrate that shelf life can be as long as 2 years from the manufacturing date printed on the bag. I.e. if the manufacturing date is October 2020, it is best to use the mask by September 2022.
MaskPlus™ Livinguard reusable masks are available in S, M, L, and XL sizes. This is similar to the MaskFit ProShield® masks in the previous distribution. The antiviral and antibacterial performances, as well as sizing and fit, are different from other masks that were distributed previously.

All mask types being distributed provide protection against bacteria and viruses in general.
MaskPlus™ Livinguard reusable masks come in S, M, L, and XL sizes.

Free size S masks are only available to children aged 8 and younger.

Use of School Smartcard / Birth Certificate for collection:
  • ID numbers starting with T13 and above may collect a free mask (i.e. Aged 8 and younger)
  • ID numbers starting with T12 and S-series and below will not be able to collect (i.e. Aged 9 and older)
  • FIN: Children aged 8 and younger without Singapore-issued birth certificates may use their FIN

How to determine the right size?

To find the right size for you, measure the space between the middle of your eye to the bottom of your chin.

Sizing is different from previous free masks. We recommend taking exact measurements using our mask sizing guide via our website stayprepared.sg/sizing-guide, to determine the right mask size. If you are in between sizes, please choose a size up.

Do note that mask-wearing is not recommended for children below the age of 2 based on guidelines from the Ministry of Health. As children aged 2 to 6 may also not have the coordination to use masks properly, parents and caregivers should decide if face shields or masks provide a better fit.
Livinguard’s proprietary antibacterial fabric allows the mask to be worn for up to a week without washing.

It is recommended to air the mask daily after use, and spot clean if dirty. The mask can be washed if it is soiled or smelly, even if it is less than 1 week from the last wash.

After 30 weekly washes, the antiviral and antibacterial performance will be gradually reduced with each additional wash. Thus, it may be used like ordinary two-layer cotton masks or used in conjunction with other masks including disposable medical grade masks for added protection.

Do ensure that the mask is washed according to the guidelines provided in the mask pack after every use as incorrect washing methods will reduce the effectiveness and durability of the mask.
The mask is made from quick drying material. You can press dry the washed mask between two clean towels to soak up excess water. Please do not use a washing machine, iron, rub, scrub, or wring the mask.
We are sorry to hear about your child’s condition. Should the MaskPlus™ Livinguard resuable mask be uncomfortable for your child, we recommend considering alternative masks from the nearest pharmacy, store, or supermarket which carry a wider selection of masks.

Do note that face masks of all types are not recommended for babies, children with special needs and for young children below 2 years of age, for child safety reasons.
We are sorry to hear that. The MaskPlus™ Livinguard reusable mask is free of toxic metals such as silver and copper and is certified to be non-toxic and safe for use, tested as per ISO 10933-1 standard. We recommend that your child stop wearing the mask, and seek alternative masks from the nearest pharmacy, store, or supermarket which carry a wider selection of masks.

The MaskFit ProShield® mask kits are customised by Singapore-based DECKS Pte. Ltd. to provide four different sizes and better comfort for this national distribution. The fabric and filter technology are similar to the ProShield Plus mask that DECKS also produces.

Each MaskFit ProShield® mask kit comes with two masks and three mask filters. MaskFit ProShield® masks provide three layers of protection. The outer antibacterial layer repels water droplets. The middle layer is a filter liner. The inner layer absorbs our own saliva.
MaskFit ProShield® masks are manufactured in Malaysia under tested hygiene environments, while the mask filters are made in China.
The filters are made from nanofibre non-woven fabric. The three additional reusable filters provide added protection from saliva droplets or dust particles.

They may be used with the MaskFit ProShield® mask, or with other DIY or 3D-shaped masks with filter pockets. The mask may be used without the filter when one is exercising, or in less crowded environments.
Yes, the filter is reversible and works the same when inserting the filter on both sides.
Each mask and filter can be washed up to 50 times. Thus, the two masks and three filters in each kit can provide reusable protection for more than three months on a daily 'wear one, wash one' cycle.

After 50 washes, the reusable masks can continue to be used like ordinary masks even though the antiviral and antibacterial performance will be gradually reduced with each additional wash. For more protection, you may wish to add another layer of surgical mask or filter.

You may also replace the filter using the ones supplied with the MaskFit Proshield® masks, or other materials. Examples of filters include: dried wet wipes, tea towels and other materials like flannel, cotton-mix, linen and cotton or surgical masks.

Do ensure that the mask is washed according to the guidelines provided in the mask kit after every use. Washing and drying may be simple but it needs to be done correctly so the mask remains effective even after 50 washes.

The expiry date of masks distributed in November/December 2020 would be December 2022.
Yes, you can continue using them like ordinary masks even after 50 washes, with lower antimicrobial performance.

Please ensure that the mask is washed according to the guidelines provided after every use as incorrect washing methods will reduce the effectiveness of the mask.

When you do dispose of your MaskFit ProShield® mask and/or reusable mask filter, please do so thoughtfully.

When used with the filter, the mask has a Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE) of more than 98%, tested after 50 washes.

More information on the masks can be found at stayprepared.sg/masks.

Information on the specifications of the masks can be found at ProShield’s website.
The MaskFit ProShield® masks are available in S, M, L, and XL sizes, which improve the fit of the mask. There is a difference in the material too. MaskSafe DET30™ masks are made from cotton; MaskFit ProShield® masks are made of polyester and the filter is a nanofibre non-woven fabric.

Both masks provide adequate protection against various bacteria and viruses.
The mask may be used without the filter when one is exercising, or in less crowded environments.

However, we strongly recommend the MaskFit ProShield® mask to be worn together with the mask filter when you are in locations with a lot of people and/or are required to interact with many people.
Yes. However, please bear in mind to choose the right filter size for the perfect fit. We would also advise to choose filter materials that are easy for breathing, and do not shed harmful particles or chemicals. Examples include cotton, linen, chiffon or even dried wet wipes.
It is recommended that you use the filter size that matches your mask to get a right fit and an optimal level of protection.
If the filter is not secure or able to stay in place, it is likely that the fit of your mask needs to be tightened around the loops. Please adjust the strap and extend mask to fully cover nose, mouth and chin.
MaskFit ProShield® masks come in S, M, L, and XL.

Free size S mask kits are only available to children aged 8 and younger.

The MaskSafe DET30™ masks for adults and kids are produced by DETERMINANT, a retail brand of Hong Kong-based textile manufacturing company Esquel Group.

The masks have three layers of protection: the outermost layer is water repellent and antimicrobial; the middle layer performs particle filtration, while the innermost layer is made of light woven cotton fabric for comfort.
All masks distributed under Stay Prepared’s StayMasked initiative have been tested by multiple laboratories to pass required safety standards. The MaskSafe DET30™ masks for adults and kids have been tested against various bacteria and viruses, with 94% effectiveness against Influenza A virus, an enveloped virus like the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Each MaskSafe DET30™ mask can be washed up to 30 times. Each mask kit contains two masks and on the basis of a “wear one, wash one” principle, should last for 2 months of daily use.

After 30 washes, the reusable masks can continue to be used like ordinary masks even though the antiviral and antibacterial performance will be gradually reduced with each additional wash. For more protection, you may wish to add another layer of surgical mask or filter.

Do ensure that the mask is washed according to the guidelines provided in the mask kit after every use. Washing and drying is very simple but needs to be done correctly so the mask remains effective for a longer period of time.

When you do dispose of your DET30 mask, please do so thoughtfully. Applying the principles of circular use, you can repurpose it as a cleaning cloth or for some other suitable use, and then dispose of it in the rubbish properly. Please do not contribute to our waste by littering.
The free Kids White masks fit children between 3 and 12 years of age. As children aged 2 to 6 may not have the coordination to use masks properly, their parents and caregivers can decide if face shields or masks provide a better fit.
Face masks of all types are not recommended for babies, children with special needs and for young children below 2 years of age, for child safety reasons.
You won’t be able to select your preferred designs, but children can have some fun swapping stickers among their friends.
All masks distributed under the Stay Prepared initiative have been tested by various manufacturers to pass required safety standards.
With Phase 2 coming into effect from 19 June 2020, the general public is reminded to exercise caution. You should wear the mask:

  • When outside of your home
  • On public transport, taxis, and private hire cars
  • Walking to or at markets
  • If you are an essential worker at all workplace premises

Do remember to be socially responsible, practise good personal hygiene and ensure safe distancing.
You may choose to wear the reusable mask for most activities such as going for a short walk or when you are in a public space. Wear a surgical mask if you are unwell and going to see a doctor.

Regardless of the type of mask used, social responsibility should still be practised. Maintain good personal hygiene habits and practise safe distancing when outside your home.
